Foreign Fears: Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in) (2008)

This month’s recommended Foreign Fears Feature film is a sleeper hit all the way from Sweden. The film has won numerous horror awards including best international film. Let The Right One In is an adaptation of the 2004 novel “Låt den rätte komma” written by Swedish novelist John Ajvide. The film follows a young boy named Oskar who is often bullied at school. He ends up befriending a young girl named Eli, who is actually a hundred year old vampire. The two develop a friendship which helps Oskar not only in finding love but also in taking revenge. This beautifully shot film is a sight to see. The cinematography of the film is well done as is the sound mixing. This vampire film is a nice departure from the stylistic vampires made famous in the Underworld and Twilight series. The film is being remade for American audiences with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves at the helm.
